When did Basketmakers of victoria form?
Basketmakers of Victoria Incorporated (BOV), is an non-profit organisation established in 1986
What do you do with all the baskets you make?
You can never have enough! In all seriousness, there is so much you can do with learned basketry techniques - we don't just make baskets to hold household things in. We have made Monkey Baskets for the monkeys at Mebourne Zoo, sculptural works, seating, structures, artistic and functional items. We could talk about this for hours!
WHY SHOULD I TRY BASKET MAKING?
Why not? It is one of those things that once you try you will understand why people have been doing it all of their lives. It is pretty addictive! If you are into all the health benefits, it is great for hand eye coordination and meditative - that balances out will all the cake and yummy food our members like to bake! And MAN are they good cooks and like to celebrate! Plus - who doesn't love a bunch of people who are diverse, interesting and fun to be around. If you don't try you will be missing out!
WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR GROUP?
Well, we like to have fun, but we really enjoy what we do. Many of our members are passionate about the development and advancement of interest in basketry techniques.
Our fibre artists have eclectic interests, embracing traditional and contemporary practices and influences.
We are a very active group with a permanent gallery, periodic exhibitions of work, hosting and conducting fantastic workshops as well as demonstrating at selected community events.
